By request, we’re back to the original 4-day format so you can have more time studying how to effectively implement quality literacy instruction -- your best strategy for successful classroom management.

  • Explore good reading and writing instruction to keep children engaged
  • Create and practice instructional strategies based on children’s literature
  • Analyze videos of actual classroom lessons

This interactive and comprehensive program is taught in small groups and facilitated by a skilled CLI Professional Developer. One session only in Philadelphia, July 26-30. Space is limited. Participants will be added on a first come first served basis.

Creating a Culture of Literacy

  • Developing a classroom environment that supports literacy instruction.
  • Creating an atmosphere that honors all children as readers, writers, and thinkers.
  • Fostering students' love of reading and writing through authentic and engaging lessons.

Effective Instruction

  • Planning intentional read alouds to effectively support literacy development.
  • Using quality children's literature as a focal point for literacy instruction.
  • Reflecting and learning from other corps members.

Classroom Management

  • Creating a classroom in which children are actively engaged in meaningful literacy events.
  • Establishing a classroom of mutual respect in which the teacher and students clearly understand their roles, classroom rules, and procedures.
  • Setting the stage for the entire school year by planning for the first day of school
