2011 National Meeting

Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) is a non-profit that works with teachers to transform instructions so that children can become powerful readers, writers and thinkers. Over the past 10 years, teachers coached by CLI have taught more than one million children.
In fall 2010, CLI won a $22 million Investing in Innovation (i3) Validation Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. With the federal i3 grant and additional philanthropic support totaling $4 million, CLI launched a 5-year program to implement and study its Modeling Exemplary Literacy Instruction (MELI) program on a larger scale.
During the grant period, CLI anticipates working with more than 460 kindergarten through third grade teachers in 39 randomly-selected public schools in Camden, NJ; Chicago, IL; Newark, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. The results of MELI are being externally evaluated by American Institutes of Research (AIR).
