The Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) respects your privacy. This Privacy Statement informs you of our privacy practices and of the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and how that information is used.

1. Sites covered by this Privacy Statement
CLI is a national Professional Development organization, with legal entities, business processes, management structures, and technical systems throughout the United States. This Privacy Statement applies to all CLI activities regardless of location.

2. Collection of personal information
CLI collects and uses personal information to understand your needs and interests and to serve you better. For example, when you register for professional training, CLI will ask you to provide personal information to complete this registration. The types of personal information you provide to us may include name, school address, ZIP code, telephone number, email address. In some instances, CLI may also ask you for a social security number if this information is required by various state agencies tracking educational credits.

CLI does not currently collect information during your visit to a CLI website through Web beacons, cookies, embedded Web links, and other commonly used information-gathering tools but may collect this information in the future. These tools collect certain standard information that your browser sends to our website such as your browser type and language, access times, and the address of the website from which you arrived at a CLI website. They may also collect information about your Internet Protocol (IP) address, clickstream behavior (i.e. the pages you view, the links you click, and other actions you take in connection with CLI websites) and product information. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web, allowing Web servers to locate and identify your computer. Computers use IP addresses to communicate on the Internet, allowing users to browse and shop.

3. How we use your information
The information CLI collects helps CLI deliver a consistent and personalized training experience.

If the social security number is ever collected, it is used strictly for the continuing education reporting purpose described above, and then it is destroyed.

CLI may also create a unique identifier for each teacher or trainee that generally consists of the teacher’s last name and a four digit identifier such as the last four digits of the teacher’s social security number. CLI is never able and does not track information based on the teacher’s complete social security number since this number in not retained.

Credit card information is used only for payment processing and fraud prevention. Credit card information and other sensitive personal information required to process a credit decision is not used for any other purpose by our financial services providers or CLI and will not be kept longer than necessary for providing the services, unless you ask us to retain your credit card information for future purchases.

4. How we share your information
CLI will not sell, rent or lease your personal information to others.

CLI participates in marketing initiatives of CLI’s products and services. Your personal information in generally not used to market products and services directly to you since these services are generally offered to administrative staff and funders within our customer relationships.

If you choose to provide personal information for use in marketing products and services, CLI will not share this information with the other companies or organizations without your permission, unless to: (i) respond to duly authorized information requests of governmental authorities; (ii) comply with any law, regulation, subpoena, or court order; (iii) help prevent fraud or to enforce or protect the rights and properties of CLI; or (iv) protect the personal safety of CLI employees and third parties on CLI property.

5. Children's privacy
CLI does not knowingly collect information from children through our web site and does not target its websites or professional services to children even though our products may ultimately be used by children in an educational environment. We encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s online activities and interests. CLI does through the course of our customer relationship collect data about the implementation of our products and services. This data collection may include the compiling of student evaluation scores for use in evaluating the success of our products and services.

CLI may also collect audio, video and photographs describing and displaying the use of products and services in the classroom. In such instances, a separate release will be requested of participants. This release will more clearly describe the collection and use of these images.

6. Your choices and selecting your privacy preferences
You may elect to not provide CLI personal information. CLI believes, however, that the limited collocation of personal information is necessary for CLI to effectively provide products and services.

7. Access to and accuracy of your information
CLI strives to keep your personal information accurately recorded. We have implemented technology, management processes and policies to help maintain data accuracy. CLI will provide individuals with reasonable access to personal information that they provided to CLI and the ability to review and correct it, as applicable. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity, such as requiring verification of your identity.

8. Keeping your information secure
CLI takes seriously the trust you place in us. To prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, to maintain data accuracy, and to ensure the appropriate use of the information, CLI utilizes appropriate physical, technical and administrative procedures to safeguard the information we collect.

Credit card numbers are used only for processing payments and are not used for other purposes. As part of real-time payment processing, CLI participates in fraud management services through our credit card processor. This service gives you and CLI an extra level of security to guard against credit card fraud and to protect your financial data.

9. Changes to this statement
CLI will undertake reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes to this statement.
